Anita's Campaign Message for the 2010 Election
When launching her campaign Anita gave the following message to the people of Rusilip Northwood and Pinner: "I’ve been inspired by the determination of people in our area. When the global financial crisis struck, we fought back and didn’t let the recession take its course.
I supported Labour action: job-boosting measures and extra help for families, businesses and home owners. Today the economy is still recovering and we must maintain support for people in Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner. When growth is secured, we will halve the deficit over four years in a fair way.
But at the next election you face a big choice. The Conservatives would put the recovery at risk, threaten public services and make life tougher for families - a change you can't afford.
As your representative in Parliament my priorities, along with my Labour colleages, will be:
1. Securing the economic recovery - I’ll back continuing support for families and businesses, strengthening our economy and promoting jobs. 2. Protecting frontline services, protecting the NHS - I’ll back creating legally enforceable guarantees for all patients. 3. A future fair for families - I’ll back guarantees of a good education for every child, including catch up tuition for pupils. 4. Standing up for the many - I’ll back new guarantees on police response times and a firm but fair immigration system. 5. New industries, future jobs - I’ll back new industries and guarantees of job or training place for 18-24 year olds.
These are not just pledges they are backed by Labours track record in Government: We have been: Fighting back against recession. Britain was not prepared to let the recession take its course – and neither were we. We chose to fight back with bold action to protect homes, jobs and businesses. The rate of unemployment, business failures and home repossessions have been a lot lower than in the Tory recession of the 1990s.
Creating A future fair for families. Strong families are the heart of strong communities. In government Labour has made it our priority to support families – in work, in their pockets and in giving their children the best start with42,400 more teachers and the Working Tax Credit provides up to £300 per week for working parents.
Protecting the NHS. The NHS now has 89,000 more nurses and 44,000 doctors than in 1997. Hospital waiting lists are at their lowest level since records began. Over three-quarters of GP practices now offer extended opening hours.
Standing up for the many. Labour has taken tough action to cut crime and tackle anti-social behaviour. Extra bobbies on the beat are having an effect. Overall crime has fallen by over a third since 1997, violent crime is down by 41 per cent, murder rate down to a 20 year low.
We are about creating a future that’s fair for all
In this election, the British people will make a big choice about the kind of future we want for Britain.
A choice between creating a future that is fair for all, or a change that puts the recovery at risk, threatens public services and makes life tougher for families. We’re fighting for a future fair for all. " | Anita's Campaign ActivitiesSave our Schools - our childrens' future depends on it (Demonstration in Hayes Town Centre -3rd April 2010 at 10.30am) In 2008 the Government announced that Hillingdon schools would benefit from £150 million as part of the BUILDING SCHOOLS FOR THE FUTURE project. As a local parent with children at Whiteheath and Haydon, I was delighted with the commitment from the Government and a year ago the Council sent out a brochure setting out their plans for improving schools. The Council said 'We will experience exciting new changes in Hillingdon Scools, making them suitable for 21st Century learning' The Council should have agreed its plans with Government now, and indeed officers were working extremely hard to ensure this was this case, but at every turn appeared to experience delaying tactics from the Conservative led administration. Last week the leader of the council met with local secondary headteachers and informed them that the council was delaying the improvement plans until after the election and is laying off the bulk of the staff working on the programme as a 'cost cutting exercise'. In effect this means that the £150 million programme for our schools is now at serious risk. A number of the headteachers at the meeting who listened to the leader of the Council believe that the Council will not go ahead with the investment programme at all. We are all extremely dismayed by this political decision, it is the educational future of our children and grandchildren at stake. Please help us make the Leader of the Council change his mind , this money is a ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity to rebuild or improve our schools. There will be a demonstration in Hayes town centre at 10.30 am on Saturday 3rd April. Please come and join us to show your support for our schools. All three Parliamentary Candidates will be there; John McDonell (Hayes and Harlington), Sid Garg, (Uxbridge and South Ruislip) and myself for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner.
