Navin Shah - Your Candidate with Brent & HarrowI was born in Ahmedabad, Gujurat State, India. I came to the UK as a University College London scholar to complete my architecture studies in 1973. I have lived in North West London ever since, first settling in Willesden before moving out to Harrow in 1976 with my wife to raise my children and work as an Architect and Development Planner in private practice. I joined the Labour Party in 1977 after becoming involved in Community Action groups in Brent and Harrow and I have been proud to serve an elected Harrow Councillor for Kenton East Ward since 1994. I led Harrow Council between 2004 and 2006, and remained the Harrow Labour Group Leader until the end of June 2008, upon my election to the Assembly. I have since wound down my architecture practice and I am honoured to concentrate on my political roles as Assembly Member and Councillor. In my many years in local and regional government, I am particularly proud of my roles as a founder member and trustee of the Harrow Anti-Racist Alliance, a member of the Ethnic Minority Taskforce and a Governor of Glebe School. In 2006, I was honoured to receive an Asian Achievers Award and I am proud to serve as the first Indian elected to the London Assembly.At both the local and regional level, I remain interested in health policy, community cohesion and planning, regeneration and housing. I live in Harrow with my wife Rekha, also a Harrow councillor and my two grown-up children Aneka and Neil. In the little spare time I have, I enjoy art, music, travel and photography. | |
