Navin was elected to the London Assembly to represent the people of Brent and Harrow in the London Elections on 1st May 2008. Navin's victory in the election bucked a national trend against the Labour Party giving us the only local or a regional authority gain from the Conservatives on the day. Navin Shah's personal declaration in support of his campaign to become Labour's candidate for the Brent & Harrow GLA Constituency is given below:
"I am motivated by a strong desire to serve our local communities and the Party; to contribute to maintaining and enhancing London as one of the World's leading cities- a vibrant and multi-cultural metropolis. As a high profile activist and a local candidate I offer you an advnatge of local knowledge, extensive local experience and a record of achievements.
